Join us for the second installment of Reading the Classics at the Kennett Library. Dr Shanyn Fiske will be leading five discussion sessions on Sophocles's tragedies Oedipus Rex and Antigone (the first and third plays in Sophocles's famous Theban Trilogy). First composed and performed in the 5th century BC, these stories of moral responsibility, social justice, and the limits of political power still hold remarkable relevance today. We will be discussing these texts both in their historical contexts and in their application to modern politics, philosophy, psychology, and gender studies.
